We'd like to be able to create links between sections in the same page, or to sections in the middle of other pages.

One way we tried to do this was to use TOC references:

http://.../fogbugz/default.asp?pg=pgWiki&ixWikiPage=1633#toc_66

This works until the page structure changes and adds references above the one linked to.

It seems the only way to do this reliably is by editing HTML, which is not ideal. Could the TOC reference system be altered so that references were persistent?

This question asks how to do it, but I've rewritten it as a feature request, I hope that's appropriate.

I copied and pasted text from an HTML email into a ticket, and the links that are embedded within words open new windows, and the links that are spelled out as http://... do not. They all should open a new window.

P.S. Please remember my notify settings in this forum. Why does it keep shutting off? It's annoying to have to reset settings each time because the forum resets it. Of course I want to be notified -- If there is a fix, I'd love to hear about it. If you need further information, the only way I'll know is if I'm notified about it. This should be the default setting.

Thanks for listening!

I like how I can type the text "See case 1234" and FogBugz auto-magically creates a hyperlink to that case. Is there a similar feature for Wiki pages?

I have cases linked to my case in the see also section. I want to remove the links. How do I do it?

One use case for removing a relation is using Case Event Edit to fix the text of a bugevent. When I incorrectly type in 'case x' where I meant to enter 'case y', If I then edit the post, It adds the new relation to y. I would assume the link to case x would be removed as well.

Okay so I think there should be a point of reference on how to cross-link / associate / relate cases to and from each other within FogBugz, Kiln, the Wiki, Discussions etc...

Because linking Cases in FogBugz and Kiln is awesome.

The Basics:

http://kiln.stackexchange.com/questions/491

review 123
case 123

http://fogbugz.stackexchange.com/questions/4405 & http://fogbugz.stackexchange.com/questions/4417

BugzID: 1234

Assuming these works too?

Review: 123
Case: 123
Bug: 123

How bout plural?

Cases 123

Advance stuff:

http://kiln.stackexchange.com/questions/1320/

If you haven't made a commit yet, simply mention the case in the commit message. For example, "Fixes case 123", "bugzid: 123", "Solves some bugs (bug ids 123, 456, and 789)" all work just fine, and will cause bidirectional linking.

bug ids 123, 456, 789

I tried to make this clear, but apparently I failed. You need the word "case", "bug", "bug id", "bugz id", or "review" in front of the case number. All of the examples above follow that. The only pseudoexception is that, if enumerating multiple cases, you only need to have the word appear in front of the first. Thus, "Fixes cases 123 and 456" will work, but "Fixes 123 and 456" will fail.

cases 123 and 456

...but not

How about...

BugzId: 123 456 789

Sadly some of the advance linking only works from Kiln to FogBugz but doesn't work from within FogBugz itself.

The point is, I'm not sure which does work, and which doesn't work... the fact that you can say:

Case #blah #blah

and have it show up auto-magically in FogBugz under "See also" related cases field is awesome and amazing. (should be easy to unlink though)

I just think it should work the same way throughout FogBugz & Kiln, or at least have a definitive reference for all the syntax in the docs somewhere.

"You can link to other wiki pages, cases, project homepages, and more."

What about tags? The URL for a tag called "meta" is:

But putting a colon in the link field generates an error:

Wiki and Article names cannot contain colons or @'s, and they cannot consist entirely of numbers.

http://fogbugz.stackexchange.com/questions/1564/documentation-for-auto-linking-in-bug-events-and-inconsistency-in-localizationDocumentation for auto-linking in bug events - and inconsistency in localization for links in wikis vs casesArsène von Wyss2010-01-22T12:56:40Z2011-05-16T19:03:37Z

I'm pretty sure that this is covered somewhere in the docs, but I was unable to find it, except for the rudimentary Linking Cases. I'm looking for a complete reference on what is auto-linked in the bug event text. I know of the following patterns:

links to cases

case XXX (site localized name for "case")
bug XXX
bugs ID: XXX
bugz ID: XXX
bugzid: XXX

link to wikis

WXXX
Article XXX (including localized names for "article")
Wiki XXX (link to wiki page XXX)

webpage urls

http://url (link to URL)
https://url (link to URL)

Are there more?

Edit: Still looking for documentation.

However, in the meantime, I asked the source - and I believe that there is a bug in FogBugz... in the static (!) constructor of
CBugRelationList
the patterns are apparently built for case/bug and wiki matching. However, in contrast to the wiki pattern which uses
FB_*_ALL
(containing a static list of localized entries), the case pattern uses
FB_CASE
which is a localizable entry which may change depending on the language of the current
CLocalizer
instance. However, since the pattern is static, it will not match other patterns anymore such as the German "Fall XXX", which used to get matched in FB6 AFAIR.

When entering a link in a FogBugz case that contains a non-standard port, the resulting link is not usable.

Repro steps:

Create a case

Edit the case and enter a link using the HTML editor

Specify in the link a non-standard port (e.g.
Changeset 120
)

The resulting link in the case is both not usable and a partial rendering of the URL and ref nofollow portion of the anchor tag.

If you remove the nonstandard port, FogBugz behaves as expected.

When linking one wiki article to another, there are two ways to do it:
1. Write custom link text, e.g "you can find more details [here]".
2. Leave the link text blank - It will be automatically generated from traget article name at link creation time.

The problem arises when people rename articles. The subject changes but the links remain with the old subject.

I think there should be "Link text auto-update" option. If specified the link text is updated automatically on article rename. I also think this option should be set by default for links created by 2nd way.

P.S. Maybe I asked this question a few years ago, but I can't find it.

Essentially, I am looking for some way to reliably link to a specific HTML element within a wiki article. It would almost always be a header, but conceivably it could be an image, list item, or some other type of element.

I have integrated the FogBugz wiki into several small applications as context-sensitive help. I would like to be able to take users to a specific part of the article. In one application I have a form with several controls. I have an article devoted to the form and separate sections for many of the controls. If the user is inside one of the form's controls and presses F1, I would like to take them to the wiki Article that deals with the form (easy enough) and then take them directly to the item in that Article that deals with the control they are using.

The first link I posted suggests a usable workaround, but that creates a maintenance nightmare for us. Some way to add IDs would be a nice workaround. Maybe enforcing a prefix for the IDs would avoid the potential problem of ID duplication, while still allowing maximum flexibility for us users.

UPDATE: The Fogbugz wiki now provides direct access to the underlying html making this--and other issues--entirely moot.

Hi,

While we try to keep discussions in cases as much as possible, there are still lots of instances where case numbers are referenced in emails outside of FogBugz. It would be really convenient if a browser extension (ideally for Chrome) or greasemonkey script existed where you could give the base URL of your FogBugz installation, and it would then link any instances of the word "case" followed by a space then a number to the URL for that case on your FogBugz system, just like FogBugz does internally. We use Gmail for our office mail, so a browser-based implementation would work perfect for us.

Is anyone aware of such a script?

Thanks,
Jason

We recently installed Fogbugz 8.0.26 (BDD 767, Build 2284) at the office and I lost the "auto-linkification" of the "case XXXX" strings that appears in comments.

I am the only developer setting Fogbugz in French (France) in the office. We produce a majority of our content in English. Previously (under Fogbugz 7), the "case XXXX" strings would correctly hightlight in my account.

After the update to Fogbugz 8, I was looking for some kind of bug and I found this related question: Linking to a case no longer works in FoD 8.

After reading that question, I was left with the impression that Fogbugz 8 will only auto-linkify the case strings in the user's language. Meaning that, in my case, only the french strings ("dossier XXXX") will ever get parsed.

Is this the case?
If it is, is there any way, short of setting my language back to English, to get the "case XXXX" strings to be auto-linkified again?

Sometimes it would be helpful to explain a change to a wiki (a spec for example) by linking to a case, but you don't want to put the case link in the body of the article. using the source control checkin comment method would work well:

Feature description:
If a user clicks on any of the project, area or milestone description they would be taken to a related filter page.

if you click on A in this image you
are taken to a list of all open cases
for Project Mercury

If you click B
the filter drills down to the
Firmware area.

If you click C you see
a list of all cases sorted by
milestones (or a list of milestones
like you do from the welcome page.)

If you click D then you are taken to
a Milestone specific filter.

I have been watching several new fogbugz users the last few days and I was surprised that they all had a hard time getting to certain filter views.

In general they were all reluctant to open the advanced filter panel, In contrast they were all comfortable modifying an existing(similar) filter to display what they wanted to see.

All of these users(independently) tried clicking the case description headers with the expectation that they would lead to a list of cases.

Making these into clickable links quickly gets users to a filter view with one known element that can then be quickly modified to exactly the filter you want without the overhead of using the advanced filter tools.

Is it possible to link a thumbnail I've uploaded onto an article, to a full size screen grab I've uploaded to another article?

ie, just add an href tag over the image?
