Can you create a milestone with a "hard deadline?"

I'd like to have a way to manage small tasks and requests coming in. Basically all those little tasks that take an hour or two, but people need "right now."

I'm thinking I can have everything go to the Inbox, wait there to be reviewed (estimated, sent to correct project, etc) and then moved to a "Requests" project. The requests project would have a new milestone set every week on Friday (would be nice if FogBugz could automatically create repeating milestones, but guessing I can write something quick against the API.)

Then as I assign cases and estimates to the weekly milestone, if the expected completion date passes the hard deadline the assigner would receive a warning and push it out to the next week's milestone. Or if it was an emergency issue, move something else.

That way I'd be able to manage my request log as well as my larger projects through FogBugz...

So is there any way to do that now, or should I tag this as a feature request?

Ability to Merge Wikis or transfer articles from Wiki To Wiki

Our company made a mistake of creating articles in seven (7) different wikis and we would like to combine them into one. However, there seems to be no way of doing it.

We had to move article-by-article. Would be nice to have a script that would move all articles.

FogBugzPy for Python 3.x

FogBugzPy is now the officially suggested way to use the XML API. It works fine too, but is tied to python 2.7 line.

The module itself is not hard to convert to 3.x but is uses the abandoned BeautifulSoup that is left for 2.x I tried to tweak it for half a day, and abandoned, but it could be replaced with some other html/xml module.

Keeping several vesions of python (+pyQt+else) is quite a hassle, especially on windows. We could just go with the most recent version for everything else, but the FB-related tools need the old one installed also.

'From' name not remembered

I read somewhere, that the e-mail address selected at From: when replying should be 'sticky'. That would be great! But somehow it doesn't work for me...

We have two mailboxes. I don't use the first, I do use the second. In the From: dropdown, I see four entries:

"A mailbox name" <ourinfo@address>
"Michel de Ruiter" <ourinfo@address>
"Another mailbox name" <oursupport@address>
"Michel de Ruiter" <oursupport@address>

Every time when I press Reply, the third option is selected by default. So every time I change it to the fourth, because I like to have my personal name in the mail.

The database confirms that it should be remembered: Person.sFrom is "Michel de Ruiter" <oursupport@address> for me, whereas for most other users it's the still default name.

Where should I look to debug this?

Feature Request: Custom Fields Plugin Decimal Support

It would be great to have the ability to enter decimal values if the custom field is setup as a number. For example, we are using a number field for "Total Hours Saved per Week" to help us justify projects. Currently, we can only enter integers; we would love to enter values like, 3.5, 4.5, etc.

Feature Request: Work Schedule time percentage should tie to project/milestone start date

Right now it seems that if you allocate all of a user's "FogBugz Time" to a project, you can't allocate time to another project. Even if the first milestone for the second project is after the expected completion date of the first.

Changing this would allow a project manager to start planning and estimating the next project while employees are working on the current one.

Why can't I refine a search the way I can a filter?

When I use filter to select some cases in my FogBugz (for example cases that active and assigned to me) I get ordered list of all cases that matches the filter. I also can easily change the filter (e.g. instead of all cases assigned to me, select all cases assigned to John Smith)

But if I want do the same via search, I can't refine the results (even if my selection was a filter - see example)

status:"active" assignedto:"Slava [    ]" type:"cases" orderby:"Priority"

Result:

As you can see in the second example I can't refine the filter, but I expect that the result should be the same. (because I use the meta-language as status, assignedto, etc...) Why I can translate the search string to filter representation?

Add Project Area permissions

We're contracting work out to various teams, who are contributing code back into a particular project. Ideally, we'd be able to scope access to the project in some way--Area comes to mind, so that we preserve the security of internally scoped cases while maintaining the same workflow for internal QA and Development, and using the existing milestones.

As it stands now, we have to create new Projects for these external teams, and this adds undesirable complexity to the workflow.

It would be great if we could create a Project Area to give external teams access to the Project in a narrow, focused way.

Tracking the progress in status of cases over the course of an iteration is really valuable to us, but at the moment we have two relevant chart breakdowns ("Open vs. Closed" or "Status"), neither of which gives us what we really want.

The problem with "Open vs. Closed" is that cases are only marked as closed once they'd been QA'd, which tends to happen in a block at the end of an iteration - whereas as the developers are marking cases as "Resolved" continuously throughout development. Showing Open vs. Resolved would give us a much more representative measure of development progress.

The Status breakdown is too detailed as it separates out all statuses within all cases categories - which is confusing.

When a client requests something that is chargeable, we add that request as a case in Fogbugz and all correspondance on that client request goes through the case (which works really well for us). We add the time spent on the request by either adding to the Elapsed field of adding it under Edit Timesheet.

The problem is that when the client queries the time spend, there is no detail attached to the hours.

Something like this would be ideal (for case 12345):

01/06/2010 30 min Specified the details of the data requested
02/06/2010 1 hour build the query and sent the data
02/06/2010 1.5 hours changed the query to included last years sales

At the moment, I'm considering adding case details like this:

CHARGEABLE TIME: 1.5 hours - changed the query to included last years sales

And then adding 1.5 hours to the Elapsed field.

But is there more elegant solution? Maybe a plugin?

FogBugz allows users to authenticate against Active Directory.

It would be helpful to be able to set permissions for projects, wikis, etc using Active Directory Group Security.

Group administration through the FogBugz website is nice, but administering access permissions against Active Directory Groups is ideal in a larger organization. Reducing administration and centralizing security is our goal. Will this be a feature in a subsequent release? Thanks.

Okey, as recommended, i've learned to divide tasks by 3-8 hours length. I have a group estimation process.

So now i'm entering new tasks and trying to do some rough date planning on that data.

I don't want to estimate tasks by myself, because i want the team (or concrete devs) to have final estimates so they can learn to estimate and because fogbugz uses only original estimate for all the real things.

I want EBS to take unestimated tasks with some reasonable historic averages (monte-carlo on historic data would do greate, i think) and produce me rough planned dates.

I guess that could be done with a "simple" checkbox on reports page.

A number of team members have used the Rich Text editor and submitted edits to bugs that way. It looks just fine during edit.

However when viewing the bug, those edits end up showing all the HTML tags or things like "&nbsp";. Am I simply missing a plugin or haven't changed a setting somewhere to get these to display properly?

Feature Request: Easier customization administration

I am a big fan of the BugMonkey plugin. Especially BugMonkey 2.0 was a huge step: customizations can be edited individually and even enabled on a per user basis. Great!

However, things are getting a bit out of hand. In our installation I currently own 83 customizations. Some of my own, some from this support site, some a mixture of both.

I try to give them descriptive names. But every time I want to change or check something, I have to think hard which customization I need to open. So:

I would love to be able to search for some text or css class or whatever

Every now and then I break something. No big deal except... it's impossible to find out what part of which customization I changed. Sure, I could save every customization as a file and check it into our source control system ~~(Visual SourceSafe, don't ask!)~~, but that's not available everywhere. Plus it's very easy to forget. So:

why not add history to customizations?

In summary, I would like customizations to be like Wiki pages!

What Happens when a milestone is completed??

Your product is great, I've been using it for about 4 years now. My problem is what happens when a Milestone is complete? Engineering generates a release... we stick it in a folder, and tell our service department it is available, then they put it into BETA or maybe it goes to Production (we ship servers with our stuff installed on it). Or maybe in BETA it has issues and needs to be pulled back... my point here is wouldn't it be great if Fogbugz provided a way to track the state of a milestone AFTER all the work is done? thank you

ps if you can recommend some software to do this, that would be great. I tried trello... it's close but with no dates it's a little bit abstract and I would rather it 'known' about the milestone(s) already.

Screen capture after switching to https throws some errors

We've recently moved to running Fogbugz over https which work amazingly easily.

One annoying quirk though is that the screen capture plugin does not follow the redirect from the old http:// to the new https:// address. As a result it throws a hundred and one javascript errors as it tries to load the Fogbugz homepage in the little pop up window.

Simple fix (once I'd clicked through the 50+ error pop ups, damn you IE) is to right click on the screen capture icon in your quick launch bar, select Options and change the url it posts to to use https://

I do this several times a week: I craft a nice HTML post with certain comments being links to supporting documentation and the email is plain text. The receivers see the email and immediately have questions: Is that assertion really true?

Feature Request: Reference and link Kiln changesets/files in FogBugz Cases

This may already exist, but after extensive searches and reading, I haven't found anything.

I would like to be able to add a link in a FogBugz case to a file in a Kiln repository, much like you can link a wiki article using W###.

We have client facing documentation (requirements docs, diagrams, design docs, etc.). These are all created in Microsoft Word and Visio.

Since it is relatively difficult to export cases that belong to a project into a client presentable document, it would be very helpful to be able to place all of the client facing project documents in a Kiln repository and then add a link to the case from which it was created. This way we can continue to keep our project documents under version control and intact to share with clients, and link them to the actual work that is done and tracked in FogBugz.

If this is possible, we could also store testing files and such in Kiln and link them to the testing cases in FogBugz. I would much prefer to keep these types of files under version control anyway, and not add them as attachments to a FogBugz case.

Is there an existing feature that will do this, or is this a new feature?

We're receiving messages from our hosting provider into FogBugz. This is very useful, but then the mail goes into loops:

each message triggers an automatic response to the provider,
who in turn replies with "Thanks we've received your inquiry",
which triggers a second automatic response from us,
and a provider reply, "Your mail has not been read."

All of this happens for every message we receive from the provider. My guess is that they're not very happy about it.

--> How can we always suppress the autoresponse when the sender is on a list of specific addresses?

I made a bunch of edits to a wiki page at work. When I came home, I noticed I had that page open for edit, but there was no indication that it had been edited.

When a user opens a wiki page for edit, that is currently being edited by another user, both users should be informed of that fact.
