Changing Project Resets Area

We have a number of projects, most of which contain two areas: Documentation and Software. Occasionally, the project in which a bug occurs is not clear (our customers typically deplou a suite of interoperable products we supply which interact with third-party software and hardware, which complicates troubleshooting to the extent that front-line support staff cannot always determine where the root cause of a problem lies).

When we change the project, the area is reset to the first in the alphabetical list of areas, which usually goes unnoticed. In our case, since the bulk of our problems are software-related, the fact that Documentation occurs before Software in the dictionary means misleading information can easily appear in our FogBugz installation.

The following behavior would be preferable:

(1) If the new project contains the same list of areas as the first project, the new area should match that of the originally-selected area.

(2) If there is no matching area, the default area should be configurable per project rather than relying on an accident of alphabetization.

Which iPhone Application for Fogbugz?

I'd like to know which is the best iPhone application for Fogbugz. I've looked on the iPhone App Store and found the follwing three applications.

Bugztopia.
Case Control.
Inbugz.

Is there anyone out there making use of any of these products that can give me an idea of why you chose a particular application over the other?

Bulk case insert\edit cabilities

I would love to be able to add and edit cases from Excel (similar to TFS). It would be great to load results from a filter, update the results, and\or add new cases from Excel.

I've had a few of my plugin users report the following error with my Plug-ins.

System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Data' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

File name: 'System.Data'

It seems to only happen with for people running FogBugz on a web server platform other than Windows, and some have noted that the same error is thrown by multiple plugins. One person claimed to have fixed it by upgrading to FB 7.2.16, but I don't see anything relevant int he release notes.

Is this a known issue with some versions of FogBugz for Unix regarding system.data?

What is the effect on EBS of subcases having differeng milestones?

Say I have a top level case C1 that has a number of subcases on it (C2..Cn). I assign C1 to milestone M1, and all of C2..Cn to M1 also.

Time passes.....

We decide to move some of the subcases to a different milestone - they probably had their priorities reduced earlier, but now we know they will be addressed as a future phase M2. In FB I can change the milestone of the subcase to M2, but how does that affect what EBS predicts as the finish date of the parent case (that is still set to M1)?

Predicting a couple of responses:

Is the proper solution to create a C1-Phase1 and C1-Phase2 top level tasks, each on different milestones, and then assign the subcases? This seems a bit odd, as to move a case's milestone you need to remember to shift its parent too.

If EBS somehow gets broken by subcases on different milestones, should the UI even allow this to happen?

Which aspects of the FogBugz 7.x user interface could be prettier? (Please be specific!)

Suggestions/Experience on integrating FogBugz with Crucible ?

We are a perforce shop, and are strongly considering adding Crucible (and probably fisheye) to the mix. Jira is too ugly to consider, though, so we will stick with fogbugz.

What causes an user/a case to be blocked?

On the global milestones report, when you view per-user timelines, the legend shows it's possible for an user (or a case?) to be blocked.

Thought I should flag up this admittedly minor issue:-

The default template has this:-

.contentWikiView span.Courier { font-family: Courier, Courier New, monospace }

... and this:

    }

Note that the span.Courier lists Courier New after Courier, so (unlike the Code class), the font span will use the older, non-Cleartype font. At least, that's what happens with firefox 3.6 on Windows Vista.

Feature Request: Ability to sort tables by columns in the wiki

Any plans on implementing sortable columns for tables in the wiki? For example in mediawiki you're able to have columns sorted such as in this page:

Currently manually sorting a table requires a lot of work. At least implementing the ability to drag and drop rows/columns would help tremendously.

Sorting a filter on a long-text type custom field causes exception

When I setup a filter that shows a custom field I've added of type "long text" and then I click the heading to sort on that field, I get an unhandled exception in the Custom Fields Plugin and no cases are listed. By the way, there's no way for me to report the exception in the actual page.

Problem closing / resolving cases

Hi,

We have a problem with our FogBugz installation where some categories of cases can no longer be closed or resolved. We are using Fogbugz 6.1.44.

At some point in time someone here has modified the categories in our Fogbugz Database, but I'm not sure if this is to blame for the problems closing cases. Whatever changes were made are before my time working here, so I don't know exactly what was done but I can provide database schema if it would be helpful. Our Category list is as follows; Bug, Feature, Enhancement, FAQ, Schedule Item. The two categories that can be closed and are working properly are Bug and Schedule Item, none of the other categories can be closed.

The behaviour of the problem is as follows: If you create a new case in Fogbugz of one of the affected categories, e.g. "Enhancement". the case will be added successfully. If you then view the case and choose the "Resolve" option, the Resolve case page will load but there is a warning message displayed "Confirm Navigation - If you leave now, your changes will be lost" with the options "Leave this page" or "Stay on this page". This is not correct because we are arriving at the page and not trying to leave it at this point. Normally this message would appear if you try to navigate away while editing a case, to prevent loss of changes. Also regardless of the option you choose, leave/stay. If either option is clicked they have the same result, you stay on the same page. The page is displayed how it would normally look when resolving a case, "Resolve & Close" "Resolve" and "Cancel" are the options and there is an editbox to write a comment. The problem is that if either resolve option is used the changes are not saved, e.g. If I make a comment then click "Resolve & Close" the page loads the case again displaying it still as open status and the changes have not been saved.

Has anyone had any similar problems before? Or does anyone have a suggestion on things to check.

I have had a look around through the DB tables for any obvious discrepancies, referring to the 6.0 DB schema documentation for table and field descriptions etc but didn't identify anything that was out of place.

Do you think upgrading to version 7 would possibly fix this issue?

The FogBugz wiki editor is much more buggy and quirky than most any other WYSIWYG editor I've ever used. Its deficiencies make it hard to pitch the FogBugz wiki as a good alternative to word files on network shares in our organization. I semi-frequently get its markup into a bad state that I can unlatch only by pulling out FireBug.

Why oh why, FogCreek did you have to re-invent this wheel? What was so god-awful-wrong with TinyMCE and CKEditor that you just couldn't pick one of them and move on with life?

I'll add a list of the few annoyances that I've run into personally in the last few days:

Drag & Drop or Cut & Paste editing of bulleted lists can produce bizarre results
Unknown actions cause the cursor to disappear
A couple times, the editor has somehow gotten in a mode that causes formatting actions from the toolbar to cause the cursor to skip to some random part of the text

Problem Integrating Mercurial With FogBugz On Demand

I am using the FogBugz hosted service for issue tracking and Mercurial for version control. I'd like my Mercurial repository to show up in FogBugz and to be able to relate changesets to issues. Unfortunately, I'm running into a problem and I'm having trouble getting the feedback I need to solve it.

I read the documentation for how to integrate Mercurial and FogBugz. I downloaded fogbugz.py and left it in the home folder of the user that hg serve runs as. I modified hgrc thus:

Currently, when I push from my repository to /var/hg/myproject, the push succeeds, and I see no error messages, but nothing shows up in the Source Control part of my FogBugz site. I also confirmed that I could access the Mercurial repository by pointing my browser at the given IP and port. The repo shows my changes. In /home/user, a fogbugz.pyc file shows up, so I'm pretty sure that the Python interpreter tried to run the file and produced a compiled version for later use.

I'm pretty sure that something in the given configuration is wrong, but I can't tell what.

Active directory authentication for Community users

If I add them, Fogbugz (7.1.13) picks up the Active Directory account and displays all the information but users can't user their Active Directory password to login.

Custom Fields Feature Request: Per-project default values

We use the Custom Fields plugin. We added a custom dropdown field called "Customer Satisfaction". For now, it has choices of Happy, Unhappy, and N/A. However, there are some others we may be adding.

Some of our FogBugz projects revolve around external customer interaction, so for those we want it to default to "Happy".

Many of our projects are for internal use. Customer Satisfaction should ideally be N/A for this by default. However, I can't do that currently. The default value of "Happy" gets set on a lot of cases that do not have any customer interaction.

It would be nice if the default value of this field could change based on the Project.

The Request
We use FogBugz OnDemand for both project management and customer support. We are trying to get all the emails we send signed using DomainKeys to help with deliverability. I'm wondering if there are plans for FogBugz to support sending emails signed with DomainKeys in the OnDemand environment.

We use SPF as well and have set our SPF DNS record to have include:fogcreek.com in it. That certainly helps, but we are trying to go one step further now.

My guess is that this isn't something needed by most of your customer-base, but I thought I'd throw it out there as a request (especially if others are interested)

I love the functionality provided to look at projects. The way the sliders on the reports allow you to analyze multiple milestones across a single project is really ingenious.

Can we extend this to allow the same functionality to be used across projects? I'm managing several projects and it would be great to essentially swap out "milestones" for "projects" in the reports.

Including project via slider (like milestones) allows me to see the overall health of a program/portfolio - the same as I can use multiple milestones per project. It would be great to include projects via slider to see when I can expect each to complete (a la developer ship date), etc.

I'm sure you guys could come up with really cool features to allow management at this level.

Using the XML API to get changed Wiki info?

With the FogBugz UI I can enter something like type:"wiki" edited:"yesterday" into the search box and get back a nice listing of the wiki articles that changed.

I'd like do this programmatically via the XML API (version 7) but am not quite sure how to proceed. The cmd=search seems like it could be a natural for general searching but the documentation leads me to believe it is more case oriented. On the other hand, the Wikis section of the API doesn't seem to have any search facilities at all.

Anyone had any luck getting wiki change information out of the API?
